The employees at this store have no clue about anything to do with pets. I had to walk around the store for ten minutes before somebody even offered to give me a hand. There's a pet store at the airport mall. PetPRO That is a hundred times better. Where the employees are very knowledgeable and want to help you.

A couple weeks ago I tried to make a return and the gentleman working the register was not very helpful to me. I will say he was very personable and chatty to every other customer I observed him interact with. But when it came to helping me do an return from an online order, I left in tears- leaving the item and no refund/exchange. Called the store before even going into confirm the online item could be returned and was assured as long as we had the email for proof of purchase there would be in issue. That did not suffice, it was an issue. Disappointed

It was my first time taking my senior cat to get her shots. My cat and I were both nervous. The staff were very kind and professional. They double checked with me about what shots she was getting so they were giving her the right shots. I didn't mind them asking, I appreciate that they asked so my cat's first visit would run smoothly. The vet techs were gentle and calmed my cat down after giving her the shots by petting her and saying positive words to her like "good job" and "it's ok". I will certainly be visiting Petco again in the near future.

Do not buy animals from Petco. I adopted a baby guinea pig who started showing signs of a URI after bringing her home. I rushed her to an e-vet and hour and a half away that treats exotics. She got X-rays and they diagnosed her with pneumonia. She was given oral antibiotics and critical care mix in the case she were to stop eating. They held out hope for her but told me the prognosis for small animals with pneumonia is not usually good. I kept her separate from her sisters worried she may spread this to them as well. My new baby worsened, she was too small to fight her illness, she stopped eating and drinking. I was having to syringe her water and critical care mix, her breathing got worse and she was now open mouth breathing. I rushed her to another emergency vet this one was two and a half hour away as the previous e-vet did not have anyone that could treat exotics that night. They immediately put her in an oxygen tank and said she was in critical condition. They told me she was dying and my poor girl was gasping for air. I lost her that night. I know things do happen and I didn't blame Petco... at first. Then an employee of Bangor Petco informed me that they are having a lot of issues with their guinea pigs. That they are all coming in sick or dead on arrival. I was told how one customer brought home four guinea pigs recently and all of them died. Now I'm angry. If they know there is an issue going on with wherever they are getting a bunch of sick and deceased animals they should NOT be selling them to customers and should be halting any restock of their guinea pigs until they figure out what is going on.

I don't think I'll ever go here for my pet care again. I went for an online pickup order I had to come back twice and even after the second time it wasn't ready. The person at the front told me that they have people working that weren't able to pack online orders, misdemeanor was off-putting and very lackadaisical. He said that they were short staffed (totally understand that). I asked the cashier if I could go and pick out the order myself and he said yeah go for it. So I was running around the store picking up my own order when I asked an employee where to find something and he said that he was picking up the same thing. Come to find out he was picking up my exact order. I'm not sure if I was lied to or there was a lack of communication? Also, there was a woman in front of me that asked the cashier and other man behind the desk (on his phone while he was talking to her) and asked where she could buy guinea pig shampoo. He said " yeah, nah we don't have any of that. just use Dawn or something it's good for wildlife isn't?" The tone of his voice was very condensing. I quickly googled Petco guinea pig shampoo and the item came right up. I told her where she could find it. Where's my commission check? Some of the employees are very helpful and kind but some of them are just not it.

We’ve taken home four skinny pigs from here over the past two years. It’s disappointing the misinformation the current manager is handing out to people. I had an extensive conversation on a pig I was worried about & ultimately took home to make the madness stop six months ago. His name is Alfredo, the claim was dry skin. This pig looked poorly & bloated. Promptly took him to our vet who was horrified over his condition. The coconut oil being slathered on him was incorrect treatment, also he does not have dry skin but possibly the quality of air in this place could be an issue something I briefly discussed w/ the manager as well. Our vet had to scrub him clean. Once he was cleaned the wounds he had peppered over his body stopped, the manager said he was just hyperactive we’re thinking he was bothered by the layers of dried on oil. We also do not feed pellets to our pigs, our vet highly discourages it, Alfredo has never been bloated again. I went in to this petco recently & picked up our newest addition to the herd a little female skinny pig, I was chatting to a mom & her daughter of which the manager happily blurted out how you just put oil on skinny pigs to keep their skin soft. I laid in to him about this misinformation. I realize y’all contract with a vet, I see which one from the follow up email even, we will steer clear of that vet. I’ve had our pigs seen by two other vets before both of which have educated us in a proper diet & when these pigs are on a proper diet they have no skin issues. I’d also like to point out the price on them went from $150 to $200 each. These are herd animals, in fact we purchased our first skinny pig about two years ago now the reason we have a herd is because our vet educated us on the importance of them not being alone. I’ve often times seen these skinny pigs alone & with the price it makes it difficult for families to adopt pairs. I took another baby girl home a year ago now bc she was curled up in the corner of her space shaking & clearly not doing okay she was so tiny it was unbelievable, I couldn’t possibly have left the poor girl behind she’s thriving now. I’d love to see something done better here but unfortunately with this being such a big chain idk how we get these changes put in place.

Some staff can be difficult with grooming your dog here and prices are ridiculous for the toys but cute animals fast check out and pet friendly and kid friendly

Wonderful staff, but at least one of their fish tanks is infected with ich. I've had 2 clown plecos die in the past month, each within 2 days of purchase. I'm not interested in a refund I would just like to not be sold sick fish in the first place. I called to let them know and basically got told "no our fish don't have ich"... my brother in christ, both of my plecos were covered in white, raised spots.. please check more closely! Be warned pleco buyers.

As much as I tend to avoid big chain pet stores, this petco was quite nice. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and very helpful.
