Petco does accept unwanted fish. If you have a healthy freshwater fish you can no longer care for, you can bring it to your local Petco for donation. It is wise to call ahead to check if that location is able to accept a fish donation at that time, as they may have limited space available for donated fish. Before you choose to adopt a fish or group of fish, make sure you know everything involved so you are fully prepared to care for your pets. Petco guarantees returns of freshwater aquatic life inside a designated time frame. For 30 days, you can receive a full refund for freshwater fish purchased in our Pet Care Centers. All fish should have a properly established habitat; a receipt is required, and we recommend providing a water sample with your return. By testing your water, we can help check if your tank is ready for another fish, or if it may need some work to prepare it for a new fish.

I would not recommend shopping here. One of the main managers, Carmen, had told me he did not have an item i desperately needed when then i had asked another employee and they walked me right over to an abundance of the product i needed. Lazy and uncaring service. Better management and customer service needed.

My daughter recently wanted fish and I was apprehensive about purchasing any until I spoke with Rachel (store manager) and the staff in the fish department, Caden and especially Rick. All of them have been incredibly helpful and supportive with this process and I can’t thank them enough. Ricks knowledge and expertise is amazing and I couldn’t have done it without him!

Better to shop on-line or at a different location

Let me start by saying I like Petco. I find their prices to be very completive, their employees usually helpful and their stores are clean and well stocked. For years I had my dog groomed at Petco as well. Excellent results all of the time. Now, I usually shop at their new store in Medford but today I made the mistake of visiting their Woburn Ma. location. I was in retail for 40 years so I think I know a little about making the customer happy. Ok, enough history. As you know, Petco offers on-line shopping that offers, almost always, lower pricing and on-line specials and sales. Almost always, if you bring up the online price at any retail location, the store will honor the on-line price. The Medford, MA Petco does this all the time. I am guessing the Woburn store never got the memo. The person at the register , nice enough person, had to ask someone who then had to go into an office and ask, I am guessing the store manager, if the online price could be matched. Answer-NO, we can't do that. This person, again, I guessing a manager, didn't even have the courtesy to tell me face to face or explain why one store will match on-line pricing while this one won't. Now how stupid is this? I left the store and in the comfort of my car still in their parking lot, I ordered everything on-line and saved close to 20.00 AND, was told I could either pick up my order in an hour or get same day Free Shipping! I chose the free shipping. The Woburn manager may want to get out of the office and take a walk around and ask, "Why are there only 4 cars in my parking lot on a Saturday afternoon?" This is why so many brick and mortar stores are dying off.

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

I went in today to buy Hills wet cat food. Finding a very limited selection I asked an employee if there was any 7years + cans or pouches in the back. She came back in a couple of minutes and said there was but it was on a big pallet and it would be too much trouble to bring some out, come back Saturday. She was pleasant and perhaps this is what she's been told to say but I found it to be poor service, saying we have it but it's too much trouble for me to accomodate your needs. I thought she could have said I could go find what I needed in the back and they would take it out of the stock or something else to allow me to buy what I was there for. I live in Tewksbury and I work on Saturdays so to come back then would be a much greater inconvenience then to go right across the street to PetSmart where I found what I needed. PetSmart has a new customer. When I checked out the cashier said they did not have a senior citizens discount which I know I've received there in the past.
