Petco does accept unwanted fish. If you have a healthy freshwater fish you can no longer care for, you can bring it to your local Petco for donation. It is wise to call ahead to check if that location is able to accept a fish donation at that time, as they may have limited space available for donated fish. Before you choose to adopt a fish or group of fish, make sure you know everything involved so you are fully prepared to care for your pets. Petco guarantees returns of freshwater aquatic life inside a designated time frame. For 30 days, you can receive a full refund for freshwater fish purchased in our Pet Care Centers. All fish should have a properly established habitat; a receipt is required, and we recommend providing a water sample with your return. By testing your water, we can help check if your tank is ready for another fish, or if it may need some work to prepare it for a new fish.

The cashier made sure my app was installed and that I used all the credits that had built up in my account. That saved me about $70. So glad she took the time.

Store regularly closes without notice.

In the last six months the Boulder store has been closed three times of the five times I came to shop during regular hours. There’s always a handwritten sign saying store hours today 9-6 pm. Website and google still say store open to 8. There’s always a string of customers coming puzzled to locked doors. Clearly they are loosing more money in sales than they are saving by having wages so low no one will work there. This has happened during prime hours like Saturday afternoon or after 5 like today. Change the store hours or hire a manager able to staff the store or pay enough to keep workers. In the ten minutes to write this, eight customers came and tried to enter store. This doesn’t seem like a viable business model. Sell your stock now.

Expired dog for over 6months sold to us

Bought a bag of Canidae dog food at the Boulder Petco. Opened bag to discover an odd smell. Took bag back to close Petco, don't live in Boulder. The Manager discovered this bag yo be over 6months expired. Called back to Boulder store manager to a response of " I'm sorry" nothing more. Will not be shopping ever again at the Boulder store.

Ferrets

I purchased two ferrets that had been at Petco for over two months. They were well socialized by the staff but had ear mites and one was too thin. These are not like a mouse or hampster but are treated as such which can lead to behavior issues.
