Many varieties of freshwater fish come in an array of colors, making it easy to customize your aquarium's look and feel. We carry an array of species from aggressive and semi-aggressive to schooling fish, so you can find the right fish to fit the size and style aquarium you want. First-time pet parents often choose to take home a betta, as they are beautiful to look at and make a great species for those getting started with aquarium keeping. In some states, we also carry other types of aquatic life, such as live plants and invertebrates.
Petco does accept unwanted fish. If you have a healthy freshwater fish you can no longer care for, you can bring it to your local Petco for donation. It is wise to call ahead to check if that location is able to accept a fish donation at that time, as they may have limited space available for donated fish. Before you choose to adopt a fish or group of fish, make sure you know everything involved so you are fully prepared to care for your pets. Petco guarantees returns of freshwater aquatic life inside a designated time frame. For 30 days, you can receive a full refund for freshwater fish purchased in our Pet Care Centers. All fish should have a properly established habitat; a receipt is required, and we recommend providing a water sample with your return. By testing your water, we can help check if your tank is ready for another fish, or if it may need some work to prepare it for a new fish.

Betta "policy"

The worst experience buying a betta I have EVER had. I went to check out and the man at the register starts GILLING ME about the size tank I was getting which was a 1.5 gallon (which the sell there at thier store btw)He said " these fish REQUIREa 5 gallon tank minimum and he would not sell me the fish if I did not have that size of tank and on top of that he said I should have it had set up first!!!So I asked for a manager and as he was walking away said good I don't want to argue with you anyways as if I was the problem... Like who do these people think they are? THEY SELL 1 GALLON AND SMALLER TANKS FOR THOSE FISH!! He made me feel awful. I'm continuing this all the way up... uncalled for...

Wonderful Experience again!

The Wonderful Employee that helped Me is Bryce. And also another Wonderful Employee helped Me and I did not catch Her name, but She is a Cat Expert. Both of these employees are incredibly compassionate about animals and incredibly informed about their product knowledge and they have huge hearts and their strength inspires me because they continue to care in the world that is struggling to care. I don't normally write reviews, but I am so overwhelmed and impressed by the strength kindness and intellect of these Wonderful Women, as well as the product knowledge of these employees. Your store is lucky to have such a wealth of goodness.
