Petco does accept unwanted fish. If you have a healthy freshwater fish you can no longer care for, you can bring it to your local Petco for donation. It is wise to call ahead to check if that location is able to accept a fish donation at that time, as they may have limited space available for donated fish. Before you choose to adopt a fish or group of fish, make sure you know everything involved so you are fully prepared to care for your pets. Petco guarantees returns of freshwater aquatic life inside a designated time frame. For 30 days, you can receive a full refund for freshwater fish purchased in our Pet Care Centers. All fish should have a properly established habitat; a receipt is required, and we recommend providing a water sample with your return. By testing your water, we can help check if your tank is ready for another fish, or if it may need some work to prepare it for a new fish.

Exceptional Care

We have taken our Akita, Kudo, for grooming to Petco for a year now because the manner of services offered are exactly what Kudo needs. He is a personality that requires the Zoom Groom in addition to his double coat! Torri has taken care of Kudo at least twice, knows him, his personality, and how best to make the experience as low stress as possible. I have never had a concern leaving Kudo in the care of Petco staff and especially Torri. She greets me with a smile and Kudo with open arms. This last groom in particular was one in which I truly believe Torri went above and beyond in her care for Kudo and the passion that she shows. During Kudo's grooming Torri found a lump on Kudo's hind leg that he had discomfort with and pointed it out immediately to me when I picked him up. Because Torri showed such concern, I immediately called our vet for an appointment. Within two weeks of that groom, Kudo had a biopsy and surgery to remove the cancerous tissue that was found and deemed cancer free. This only happened so fast because Torri cared enough to point out the lump and express her concern. Kudo is very fluffy, and without her careful, caring hands, we may not have found that lump for a significant time to come and the outcome would have been much different. Because the lump was caught early, Kudo has a 90% of remaining cancer free for the rest of his life. Those are amazing odds! Everything lined up perfectly for us to get Kudo the care he needed, but ultimately, it is because of Torri that we are in this amazingly positive position. I can't thank her enough and will continue to do so. And Kudo, although not a fan of grooming, loves Torri and is incredibly thankful as well. I do hope that Petco can show Torri the accolades she most definitely deserves for the care and compassion she brings to her work everyday.

Get a clue!

I visited this store on Thursday March 9th, 2023. I was looking to nm purchase 2 fancy goldfish to put in my 10 gallon tank and to be then transferred to a 75 gallon tank to be acclimated for an outdoor pond during warm weather months. The very young girl tending the fish tanks refused to sell them to me saying that a 10 gallon tank was too small for goldfish! I tried explaining the process I had planned but she absolutely refused to sell me any fish! First off, what sense does it make to sell goldfish bowls that are barely 1 gallon if they are not big enough for a goldfish? Second of all, I have had fish tanks off and on for the last 35 + years and have never been refused the sale of a fish! I found this absolutely absurd to be refused the sale of 2 very small goldfish because they would temporarily be placed in a 10 gallon tank! Needless to say I will not be coming back to Petco in North Conway, NH! I went to Petco in So. Portland, ME on Saturday and got my 2 fancy goldfish without a problem so I guess they will be my source from now on. Thanks for nothing Petco, North Conway, NH!

Excellent Customer Service

We frequent the N.Conway Petco for Guinea pig supplies. During our recent visit, it was brought to our attention a Guinea pig needed a home. We were introduced to Smudge and fell in love with her. She is the sweetest Guinea pig and is settling in well. She loves to chat, cuddle and play with her Guinea pig friends. A wonderful addition to our family! Thank you.

Turned down a sale

My boyfriend and I just went to petco in Conway to pirchase a female beta and the woman behind the counter asked where she was going and we said with another female and she started to say that they are territorial and would kill each other. Which is not true because I looked it up they like to be in a sobriety of 4 to 6 female betas. She then refused the sale to us . we are very upset considering how much money we drop in that place. We will no longer be giving them are business off to petsmart from now on. Good luck petco with that kind of customer service I'm surprised you are still in business! And she was the manager go figure maybe petco outta hire people that know what they are talking about.
