Many varieties of freshwater fish come in an array of colors, making it easy to customize your aquarium's look and feel. First-time pet parents often choose to take home a betta, as they are beautiful to look at and make a great species for those getting started with aquarium keeping. Petco does accept unwanted fish. If you have a healthy freshwater fish you can no longer care for, you can bring it to your local Petco for donation. It is wise to call ahead to check if that location is able to accept a fish donation at that time, as they may have limited space available for donated fish. Before you choose to adopt a fish or group of fish, make sure you know everything involved so you are fully prepared to care for your pets. Petco guarantees returns of freshwater aquatic life inside a designated time frame. For 30 days, you can receive a full refund for freshwater fish purchased in our Pet Care Centers. All fish should have a properly established habitat; a receipt is required, and we recommend providing a water sample with your return. By testing your water, we can help check if your tank is ready for another fish, or if it may need some work to prepare it for a new fish.

Horrible management!!

We spent over $300 on a new 20 gallon tank set up. Called not even a week later and the supposed "manager" Lindsay was very snooty and rude to the point I just ended up hanging up. Trust me and go to the Woodbury location. They are much more humble in mistakes! Shame on YOU Lindsay!! And you should NOT have a management position!

Poorly managed mixed messaging

We recently adopted two kittens a purchased a bunch of gear- some of it not knowing if we would need it. Store employee told us to come back in and bring the unused items with tags and we returned to the store a week later to return and were told we were past 30 days so we couldn’t return them.

A great experience.

All the staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. The store was clean and wet and well organized. The animals that they did have there seemed like they were happy and well taken care of which is nice to see at a chain store. Even though my phone screen was broken the person that rang us up had no problem finding my rewards account and coupons. We got distracted and left one of our packages there and didn't realize it until the next day. We called and they had the bag of stuff set aside for us with our our name on it so we could come and pick it up.
